Fees & Rebates

Personal Consultation Fee

$250 per session (without a Medicare rebate or claiming through private health insurance).

Referrals

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist (unless you intend to claim a Medicare rebate).

Medicare Rebates

The Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative provides access to Medicare rebates for people accessing psychological treatment from registered psychologists. A visit to your GP is recommended to obtain a referral through the Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative. Your GP will need to prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan prior to referring you for treatment with a psychologist.

You are entitled to up to 10 Medicare claimable sessions per calendar year with a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan. The rebate amount is indexed each year by Medicare.

If the cost of psychological therapy session exceeds the Medicare rebate. You will need to pay the difference between the Medicare rebate and the session fee.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on your level of cover and your insurance provider, you may be eligible to claim for psychological therapy. You cannot, however, claim from both Medicare and your insurer for the same session. A receipt will be issued to you, which you can claim with your insurer.
